Bee & Wasp Removal Toowoomba

Bees and wasps might be important for the ecosystem, but they can be annoying or downright dangerous close to your house or workplace. While most people know that bees only sting out of self-defence, the same is actually true of wasps! The difference is that a bee can only sting once, while wasps can sting multiple times.

All this being said, having bees or wasps in large numbers near where you are can be unnerving, and may cause accidental encounters. With so many people allergic to bees and wasps, it’s better to have the hive or swarm removed by professionals such as us. Call us on 07 4634 5011 or contact us online today for a free quote!

Bee & wasp swarm removal

Bees will swarm sometimes. You may see them flying in a large group – the queen will be somewhere near the centre – or resting in a large ball on a branch, called a swarm cluster. Swarms will generally move on quickly, but if you’re having an issue they can be put into a specially built box by our specialists and relocated to a new place where they can finish their swarming.

Bee & wasp hive removal

We can usually remove beehives without harming the bees, by putting the combs into boxes and allowing the remaining bees to enter, then sealing and removing the boxes. This is obviously ideal, as bees are important for the pollination process.

Unfortunately, as wasps are so aggressive when their nests are disturbed, we usually need to use chemical pesticides to kill the wasps and remove the nest. While some don’t like this idea, it’s the best way for us to keep you and your family safe.

Bee and wasp prevention

If you are seriously concerned about bees and wasps around your home, there are a few ways to help keep them at bay. Certain flowers, such as lavender and rosemary, are very enticing for bees, so keep this in mind when landscaping. Likewise, wasps are attracted to sugar and meat (that’s why you always see them at BBQs), so keep food scraps tightly sealed in bins.

Why do bees & wasps swarm?

Bees will swarm when they are looking for a new place to live. It is very rare to see a wasp swarm as they don’t often leave their nests.

  • If you see a flying cloud of bees, this is a swarm with the queen at its centre
  • A big ball of bees on a branch is called a swarm cluster, where they will rest while other bees search for a new home

How far do bees & wasps travel from their hives?

Bees tend to work less than 200 metres from the hive, preferring to stick closer to home. If there are no available food sources, they can go up to more than 1.5 km away if necessary – a long way for a little bee!

Wasps are real homebodies, searching for prey 50-250 metres away from their nests, though up to 500 metres if they have to.
