TYPES OF TERMITE TREATMENT IN TOOWOOMBA

In addition to the aforementioned inspections and physical barriers, there are some common methods that we employ to make sure we deal with infestations as effectively as possible. It might be tempting to try a DIY treatment instead of contacting a professional, but this is only ever a temporary solution – one that might not even work if you aren’t aware of the exact type of termite.

At Holloway & Co, we pride ourselves in our effective treatment for pest control services. Your family and/or workplaces can be assured as our products are government registered and have reduced hazards to humans. They are efficient and effective, giving you peace of mind. We offer both chemical and non-chemical solutions based on the needs of our clients.

We use the following termite extermination solutions when treating termite infestations:

Termite Barriers

During construction, we can also install protective barriers in the foundation of your project that will deter termites and help protect your timber from external threats.

A physical barrier for termites is now required for all renovations and new dwellings according to the Building Code of Australia. A physical termite barrier consists of layers pf chemical treated webbing and plastic that is laid underneath your home. It not only blocks termites from being able to enter your structure, but the chemical component repels them as well.

Termite barriers are one of the most effective termite control and prevention methods available.

BAIT STATIONS

This form of treatment employs several bait stations around your property. The bait contained within is treated with a unique substance (such as diflubenzuron) that disturbs the moulting process for insects, slowly eliminating the infestation by stunting their growth.

Termites will need to forage for food as they navigate your property, and they will end up taking the bait back to their colony. This treatment is environmentally friendly and relatively unobtrusive, effectively leaving the insects to do the pest control work themselves.

CHEMICAL TREATMENT

For this treatment, a specially formulated termiticide is applied underneath the flooring and certain key points around the building foundations; this will slowly but surely stop the termites. We might need to drill holes into your property depending on its layout, but this will not damage the structural integrity of the building, nor will it come close to the risk posed by termites.

We will endeavour to replenish this liquid regularly to ensure the treatment persists until the colony is gone, or else they could persevere.

TERMITE DUSTING

Dusting works similar to the above methods, as it involves a special toxicant (such as Terminor) that is applied to and distributed throughout the property. Treated dust is blown through small termite gatherings, where it sticks to them as they return to the full nest. It is here that it's distributed amongst the entire colony – and most importantly, the Queen.

This may be one of the oldest termite removal methods in existence, and it has survived the test of time simply due to how effective it is, especially during the warm months. This can work even better when used alongside other chemicals.

TERMITE FOAMING

Foam provides thorough coverage for treatment, letting us do our work even in the hard-to-reach areas of the property. When the foam is injected into your building, it can rapidly expand to coat the surrounding surfaces – and any termites in the radius.

The viscosity and foaming agent is decided by your Holloway specialist, making sure that it fits the needs and layout of your property. Otherwise, improper mixing could cause it to seep out of the walls. This technique is perhaps most effective in conjunction with another, as the relatively quick-kill nature of the foam prevents it from being carried back to the deepest recesses of the nest, or the Queen.

PRE-PURCHASE PEST & TERMITE INSPECTIONS

Purchasing a property is a huge decision for anyone. To ensure you're getting value for money, and there are no hidden surprises, ask about our pre-purchase pest and termite inspections. We will come out to the prospective building and perform a comprehensive inspection of the interior and exterior of the property to discover any infestations or pests.

Once our inspection is complete, we will give you a report with preventative treatment recommendations if needed. If there's a pest problem affecting the property, we'll advise you of the estimated cost and timeframe of eradicating them. This may impact your decision to purchase the property.

FAQS

  • There are termites in my walls! What do I do?

First things first, don't disturb them. Spraying them with fly or surface spray will prompt the termite colony to find other areas of your structural frame to eat.

If you've found termites in your home or business, call us straight away.

  • What are the signs of termites?

If you think you might have termites in your Toowoomba home there are few clues to keep a lookout for. For example, hollow sounding door or window frames, sagging floors, and cracked paint can be a sign that termites have eaten away at the underlying timber. One of the most recognisable signs of termites is mud shelter tubing they build for protection. If you come across these, give our termite specialists a call ASAP.

  • Can you DIY termite control?

We strongly recommend against DIY termite control for a number of reasons. Firstly, not all species of termites cause significant structural damage to homes, and correct identification is critical to effective treatment. Secondly, if you do attempt to eradicate your termite infestation without proper expertise, you may only encourage them to move onto other parsons of your home to do more damage. When it comes to termites, it’s always best to call in the professionals.

  • Do DIY termite prevention products work?

They may for a short time, but it really is a “band aid approach.” The home can be quickly reinfested by the same colony.

  • How much does a termite inspection cost?

On average a termite inspection can cost between $150-$350 depending on the size of the home and how easy it is to access. During the termite inspection our team of technicians will do a thorough check of all timbers under the house and roof, assess the inside, outside and surrounding areas of the house as well as any fences, gardens, tree stumps or other timber structures. Our termite specialists will then be able to provide you with a comprehensive assessment of the risk of termites to your home and effective treatment options available.

  • When is the best time to get termite treatment?

Termites are usually more active in the warmer months of the year as temperatures and humidity rises. This means it’s critical to have regular inspections and treatments during the summer, especially in Toowoomba where termites are particularly prevalent. However, this doesn’t mean termites don’t also do damage during the winter months too. It’s highly recommended to have regular termite inspections each year to ensure that you catch any problems before they can cause long lasting issues.

  • How much does termite prevention cost?

Termite prevention can involve numerous methods, each with their own specific costs. For example, termite treatment using a spray or foam is often the cheapest method of preventing termites, while other methods like termite baiting or soil treatments are more costly.
